Beyond Leadership Styles: Developing Adaptable Leadership for a Changing Workplace

Today's leaders face complex challenges that require more than consistent execution of familiar leadership behaviors. They must navigate complexity while building trust, leading change, and working effectively with people who have different needs, perspectives, and expectations. Yet many leaders continue to rely on familiar approaches, even when a different response would produce better results.Leadership adaptability is the ability to intentionally adjust behaviors based on the needs of the person, the situation, and the desired outcome. This skill helps leaders move beyond default behaviors, make wiser decisions, and lead with greater awareness and intention.

This session introduces the Adaptable Leadership Model, a practical framework built around eight leadership postures that help leaders expand their leadership range. Participants will explore the core characteristics, strengths, and potential overuse patterns of each posture while practicing how to apply the framework to real-world leadership scenarios.

Through reflection, discussion, and activities, participants will use practical tools and mental models to strengthen self-awareness, improve situational judgment, and make more intentional leadership choices. They will identify their own default leadership patterns, recognize opportunities to broaden their approach, and leave with practical strategies they can apply immediately in their everyday leadership.

This session is designed for professionals and leaders who want to strengthen their own leadership effectiveness (and support others in doing likewise) in an increasingly complex workplace.

Key Takeaways & Learning Objectives

  • Apply the Adaptable Leadership Model to select leadership approaches that fit different people and situations.
  • Differentiate the eight leadership postures by their strengths, overuse patterns, and best applications.
  • Practice using mental models and reflection tools to strengthen self-awareness and intentional leadership.
