As Peter Drucker once memorably said, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” We know the importance that culture plays in the success (or failure) of a business, but how can we as HR professionals define and manage it with a precision that befits its importance?
We can manage our culture like a product, one that has been intentionally designed and crafted to achieve success for our company’s business model.

Sarah Livnat was destined for people and culture, but it took about 20 years to arrive after 15 years in product management and 5 years in public affairs at companies like PayPal and Oportun. Her first day on the job as VP of Culture and Engagement at Oportun was early March 2020, marking the beginning of the most impactful part of her career. In 2021 she joined NorthOne as CHRO and then JFrog in 2023 as the VP of HR for North America. She’s fascinated by the complexity and importance of people and culture in the working world and is constantly leveraging her experience as a product manager and communicator to help drive it forward.
Outside of work, Sarah volunteers for the Fondo de Solidaridad de Mountain View and is actively working to bring a community land trust to Mountain View to help address long-term housing insecurity. She is constantly planning and cooking meals to feed her three ravenous teenagers and is relieved and proud to be launching her oldest into the world next year as a college freshman.
