The world that has emerged post-pandemic is not only more complex but beset by numerous challenges, including a multi-decade spike in inflation, rapid rate hikes, higher energy costs, and unprecedented labor shortages. In an Economic Update, Mira Farka, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Economics and Co-Director for the Woods Center for Economic Analysis and Forecasting at CSUF, will join NHRA-OC as a featured speaker to discuss and answer questions surrounding the Federal Reserve’s most aggressive rate-hiking cycle since the late 70’s.

  1. Real GDP was negative in the first half of the year, but the labor market continues to remain strong.
  2. Stock market entering bear territory, but volatility remains subdued.
  3. Consumer sentiment is falling, yet consumer spending is holding up.  The fundamentals of the economy seem strong — low consumer debt, low business delinquencies, strong profits, healthy labor markets — but fears are sky-high that the economy will plunge into a recession soon. Financial markets are jittery, the world is on edge.

Join us as Dr. Farka provides insight into if the economy will experience a hard or soft landing, if inflation will be brought to heel without too much cost, whether the housing market might experience significant correction and what the Orange County economy outlook is for 2023.
