    • Let’s face it: Our world is changing, and your organization should reflect those changes. Being aware of those around you and not only respecting them but having a genuine appreciation for them and their differences will create the kind of inclusive culture that is needed to drive an optimal employee experience. While basic research has shown that diverse and inclusive teams are better at problem-solving and fostering a global outlook, HR professionals still struggle with building strategies for the modern workplace that maximize belonging at all levels. When advanced from a human and humane perspective, diversity challenges can become valuable opportunities for workplace inclusion, increased productivity, stronger team collaboration, and competitiveness amongst your market peers. Leaders who know how to cultivate positive emotion tap into an endless well of psychological capital—hope, optimism, confidence, resilience, and belief—that has the power to keep people and teams innovating, which creates value and more success even in tough times. You will leave this session with real, tangible, and actionable steps to build a better workplace culture, where employees can thrive, using a proven method for culture change.

Learning Objectives:  What will participants learn?

    • Design and recommend action steps to create organic opportunities for connection in the workplace.
    • Identify and correct instances where connections around culture are artificially forced rather than naturally developed.
    • Apply current research to your specific employee populations to strengthen connection points.

Join us on April 18th from 12:00-1:00 ET

for our first Book Club event of 2023!

All participants will receive a FREE copy of the selected book upon registration. Our first book selection for this year is The 4 Stages of Psychological Safety by Timothy Clark. This event is reserved for NHRA members, and we ask that you provide your address at registration so that we can send you a copy of the book we'll be discussing.

Book Synopsis: When leaders cultivate psychological safety, teams and organizations progress through four successive stages. First, people feel included and accepted; then they feel safe to learn, contribute, and finally, challenge the status quo. Clark draws deeply on psychology, philosophy, social science, literature, and his own experiences to show how leaders can, and must, set the tone and model the ideal behaviors--as he says, "you either show the way or get in the way."

This thoughtful and pragmatic guide demonstrates that if you banish fear, install true performance-based accountability, and create a nurturing environment that allows people to be vulnerable as they learn and grow, they will perform beyond your expectations.

Whenever you terminate an employee, make sure you have sound reasons for doing so. You want to make sure your employees understand company policy and what the results are if they violate that policy, and you want to apply this policy equally and fairly to all employees. Most employees do not commit repeated violations of company policy or run afoul of expected employment conduct. But when they do, you may find you need to incorporate a form of discipline to keep the offensive conduct in check. That’s called progressive discipline. Progressive discipline is a method of imposing discipline in steps, with a first offense meriting light punishment and subsequent offenses receiving progressively harsher penalties. Typically, the punishment begins with oral warnings and can progress to termination. Many businesses have found progressive discipline an effective means of protecting against wrongful discharge claims.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. First, we will take a close look at the four steps that make up progressive discipline.
    2. Next, we’ll go over the reasons you should carefully investigate the facts before you start the progressive discipline process.
    3. Finally, we will examine the importance of keeping accurate records.
