Does your browser accept cookies?

When you log in, a cookie is placed on your computer's hard drive. A cookie is a small text file that identifies you whenever you visit Humanresources.org . This cookie lets you access member-only content areas without logging in each time you visit a new member-protected area.

By default, web browsers accept cookies. However, you or another user (or perhaps your IT department) may have set your browser to reject them. In Netscape, you can check by going to the "Edit" pull down menu and selecting "Preferences," or by going to the "Tools" pull down menu and selecting the "Cookies Manager" - depending on the version of Netscape you are using. In Internet Explorer, you can check by going to the "View" pull down menu and selecting "Internet Options," then the "Advanced" tab, the "Security" tab or the "Privacy" tab, depending on which version of IE you are using. If you have IE 6, please make sure your setting is on Low.

Is your web browser compatible with JavaScript?
The login requires your browser to be compatible with JavaScript. By default, web browsers are set to work with JavaScript. However, on some browsers, you can disable JavaScript. Some examples are provided below to illustrate how you can check to see if JavaScript has been disabled. You can also ask your IT department, if you need assistance.

  • In Netscape 4.x: Go to the Edit pull down menu, and select Preferences. Double-click the Advanced option. To the right, a check should appear in the box adjacent to the phrase "Enable JavaScript."

  • In Internet Explorer 4.x: Go to the View pull down menu, and select Options. Select the Security tab. A check should appear in the box next to the phrase "Allow downloading of active content."

  • In Internet Explorer 5.x: Go to the Tools pull down menu, and select Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab. Scroll through the settings for the section called Java VM. A check mark should appear in "Java JIT compiler enabled."

  • In Internet Explorer 6.x: Go to the Tools pull down menu, and select Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab. Scroll through the settings for the section called Microsoft VM. A check mark should appear in "JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled."
* Still need help? Return to the User's Guide or contact NATIONAL HUMAN RESOURCES ASSOCIATION technical support.

Have you recently cleared your cache?
Cache files are like invisible carbon copies of web pages you've visited, stored on your hard drive. When you revisit a page, your browser may try to speed up your online time by looking at the cached version of the page on your computer, instead of checking back with the remote server. This may explain why you can't log in -- your browser really isn't sending the information to our server. Also, as caches become full, some browsers may not operate as efficiently. Clearing your cache will not affect your bookmarks or registered services. To clear your cache, follow these steps:

  • In Netscape 4.x: Select the Edit pull down menu, and choose Preferences. Double click the Advanced option from the menu tree. Directly underneath, an item called Cache should appear. Double click this. Click both the "Clear Memory Cache" and "Clear Disk Cache" buttons. You will be asked to confirm that you wish to clear the caches. Click "OK." Click OK again to leave this menu.

  • In Internet Explorer 4.x: Go to the View pull down menu and select Internet Options. On the General screen, you should see a section called "Temporary Internet Files." Select the Delete Files option. Select OK.

  • In Internet Explorer 5.x: Go to the Tools pull down menu, and select Internet Options. In the General tab you will see "Temporary Internet Files." Select the Delete Files option. Select OK.

  • In Internet Explorer 6.x: Go to the Tools pull down menu, and select Internet Options. In the General tab you will see "Temporary Internet Files." Select the Delete Files option. Select OK.

None of these suggestions help. What should I do?
If you need technical support assistance, please contact NATIONAL HUMAN RESOURCES ASSOCIATION toll free at 1-866-523-4417 to leave a message for a member of our web team.
